1.Why do we see unevenness in the depth of blue color over the entire surface?
In the indigo dye, using natural ingredients, the size of the dye particle is large. This causes the characteristic unevenness in color, even in the case of a single color. The uneven color expression is peculiar to the natural ingredients, end-to-end handwork and single-item production.
2.Can the same design be applied?
There are a variety of techniques, including “Itajime” or “Nui-shibori,” for the tie-dye as designs. Because all work is done manually, each produced piece shows a slightly different pattern, one and all. Although the design of produced pieces look similar, each has its own character different from the others. Please enjoy the exclusive design of your own choice.
1.Will there be any color fading after washing?
In Shoaizome products, color-fading barely occurs. Still it’s better to wash them separate from white clothes several times until the indigo color settles down. Once the color has settled, it’s safe to do mixed washing. Before the color settles down, the color of Shoaizome items may spread to other clothes which were washed together, due to the rubbing among the clothes. Use detergents which do not include bleach or fluorescent bleach agents. After repeated washing, the yellowish element of the alkaine lye, mixed in the natural Indigo dye, will fade away. This will highlight the vivid indigo color.or fluorescent bleach agents. After repeated washing, the yellowish element of the alkaine lye, mixed in the natural Indigo dye, will fade away. This will highlight the vivid indigo color.
2.While the Shoaizome item was stored, the color became somewhat yellowish and dull.
How can I recover the original color?
If the dyed item was stored for a long time without any washing, the color of the entire cloth may be vulnerable to such a change. This phenomenon occurs, due to the yellow color spreading caused by the ingredient alkaline lye. In such a case, dip and shake the cloth in hot water of about 50℃．This will eliminate the yellowish color. If you wash it later in cold water and dry it in the shade, the cloth will restore the original vivid blue color. If you still notice any yellowish color, repeat the said process of washing in the 50℃ hot water, then in cold water, and drying in the shade.
3.How should I store the Shoaizome items?
If they are exposed to sunlight for a long time, the color at the folding spots may fade away. Therefore, store them in a chest of drawers or closet, avoiding sunlight.
